DNV Container FAQ
What is the difference between an off-shore and an ISO container?
ISO containers are designed to internationally accepted standards to ensure ease of handling at container docks around the world and allowing them to be stacked on cargo vessels safely. Conversely, off-shore containers are designed and manufactured to a different standard known as DNV 2.7-1 which gives the off-shore container the ability to hold its own in the rough conditions of supply ship decks and off-shore installations. The slings supplied with most off-shore containers are also designed to allow straightforward handling with a variety of loading methods and installation types.
Why do off-shore containers require the DNV Standard for Certification no. 2.7-1?
This certification was first published in 1989 because the standard affiliated to sea transport containers (ISO 1496) did not cover offshore containers.
Are portable offices and control rooms covered by DNV 2.7-1?
No, items such as portable offices and control rooms intended for offshore use do no fall into the standard DNV 2.7-1 for containers, instead, DNV 2.7-3 is required. Lion Containers can also assist with these items.
Can you test our offshore containers when they are installed?
It is the responsibility of the owner to maintain certification for containers and record repairs, modifications and changes and maintain adequate traceability reports. Whilst this would be the responsibility of the customer, Lion Containers can provide this service – please ask your sales representative.
Can you modify offshore containers to suit our specification?
Yes, we can convert your offshore container to create any number of solutions, some examples include: Offices, workshops, rigging stores, food stores, gas bottle carries, waste and scrap bins, logging baskets and much more….
