What does DNV mean? It means Det Norske Veritas, which is an autonomous and independent foundation with the objectives of safeguarding life, property and the environment at sea and on shore. DNV containers are offshore units that have been built and certified for transporting and lifting goods in open seas to floating installations such as oil rigs, where the weather isn’t as good as Hawaii. Due to the environment of these particular places, all offshore containers are designed to withstand lifting in rough seas and to avoid failure in such bad conditions.
All offshore containers can also be built to a CSC Standard allowing them to be transported on containers vessels. DNV Containers are usually with supplied certified lifting slings and shackles, which is the most critical component to safety in transporting the container from the vessel to the offshore platform. They can be supplied with equipment such as forklift pockets for easy access and movability or framework with ISO Block/pad eyes for stacking with ISO Standard container twist locks. All DNV Containers must be certified to an offshore standard such as DNV 2.7-1 or BS/EN12079, giving them total flexibility in both offshore and onshore deployment.
The offshore industry is getting bigger day by day, which means that the need for DNV containers is getting more immense. There are many types of offshore containers, one of them being a 10ft or 20ft DNV/ISO Offshore Container, which is frequently used for storage, hiring purposes and delivering goods to offshore sites. Others include DNV Half Height Containers, Offshore Cargo Baskets, and DNV Offshore Mud Cutting Skips which are most commonly used for transporting pipes, tools, chains, hooks and anchors in the offshore industry or even offices and canteens, which are used for extra space for personnel.
Standard containers with modifications benefit all types of industries onshore, but offshore containers require more complex requirements which may need to be approved for offshore use. Here at Lion Containers Ltd we are able to offer containers that have been built to an offshore standard with fully approved modifications.

Modified DNV Containers have many benefits, and whether they are being used for storage or office equipment, they can be very beneficial if used in the correct way. If the container is going to be used frequently we are able to provide lighting, switches, power connections and sockets, so you won’t be alone in the dark. These electric components can be IP rated, Atex or Blastproof standard for use in hazardous areas. Use up all that internal capacity with secure shelving! We all know it can get rocky on the sea, so stop your goods from having a joyride with a mesh cage door to keep it secure. Further information regarding a recent container we have converted with shelving and electrics can be read here >>
