Here is a recent enquiry that Priya received, and her response below:
"Hello, we require a 30ft A60 rated container for offshore use. Please let me know if this is something you can assist with"
A60 Rated Offshore Containers
A60 Rated Offshore Containers
Hi there, this is definitely something we can assist you with as we have experience with A60 rated containers for offshore use. In fact we have included images on the left for your information. In your case we will custom build the container as it is a 30ft, and that is not a standard size. We can do this for you without a doubt.

We can supply and fit A60 rated windows, lining, doors and escape hatches and what whatever else is required to suit your bespoke requirement. To make sure this is done this will be checked when your DNV unit is completed. Your unit will go through a certification process to make sure it reaches an offshore standard and that all the accessories used are fire rated! In order to make sure that this is all done correctly and is up to DNV 2.7-1 standard, this will go to Lloyds Register and everything will be examined before a certification can be issued.

Our DNV Offshore Containers will have ISO block/Padeyes. This will help with lifting. Our DNV offshore containers weigh twice the size of our standard and this will definitely help them be stable in the rough conditions out at sea. I wouldn’t want to bore you with a list of the accessories we offer here at Lion so check out our modifications page >>

I hope that is of use, I look forward to hearing from you.

Bulk DNV Container Delivery To The Port Of Felixstowe

2/18/2015

This week a customer enquired about transportation of their containers, they required 7 x 20ft DNV Offshore containers, and delivery to The Port of Felixstowe.
"We're about to order 7 x 20ft DNV containers from you to be delivered to The Port of Felixstowe, and I'm worried about the transport. Firstly, will you deliver them for us and if so how, and what will happen when they get to the port?"
Good afternoon, we should have no problem carting 7 x 20ft DNV containers as long as there are no site restrictions. Site restrictions can be such things as a narrow lane, a gate, low telephone cables, and grass. However if you feel there might be something restricting access, it doesn’t mean we’ll immediately give up on you! We will generally look at Google maps at your site to see the general area, depending on what the problem is we may ask for dimensions and/or photos of the area. If there are still concerns afterwards, we can provide a site visit where one of our drivers will inspect the area.
Bulk DNV Container Delivery To The Port Of Felixstowe
Bulk DNV Container Delivery To The Port Of Felixstowe
Containers are generally delivered in no more than stacks of 2. We would be looking at 1 x 20ft on a single rigid HIAB then providing the access is suitable, have the remaining 6 containers travel close behind on 3 x artic flatbed / skellies.  The HIAB can then off-load the containers from the artic Lorries, thus reducing the cost on transport as we would only be paying for 1 crane.

Once the driver carrying the containers arrives at the port, they will then enquire with the customer as to what position they want the containers, and try to manoeuvre it into place as best they can. As we do not arrange shipping of containers the obvious off-load point is the Port of Felixstowe, for customer to arrange shipment themselves.

Hopefully this helps out our customer and will answer a few questions that anyone reading this may have.

Confused AboutĀ DNV 2.7-1 Certification?

2/18/2015

For those of you confused about  DNV 2.7-1 Certification, here is a recent conversation that we had with a client.
“At some point I'm going to need to order some offshore containers, and your company has been recommended to me. However, I don't fully understand DNV 2.7-1 Certification can you briefly explain it to me please?”
Thank you very much for your enquiry, it will be my pleasure to explain DNV 2.7-1 Certification, this certification was issued by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) in the late 1980’s because no other regulations specifically addressed offshore containers. The standards set a minimum criteria for material, production, design and testing for containers that are to be used in offshore environments. The international standards that were relevant were taken into account when preparing this standard. One of the most important is the British / European Standard or better known as BS/EN12079,  containers certified to DNV 2.7-1 also comply with these standards.

Most commonly DNV 2.7-1 Containers are used for storage, transportation and hiring on offshore sites. These containers are specifically designed for dynamic lifting with ISO block/padeyes, this allows easier stacking with ISO standard locks and they also have certified lifting slings equipped with shackles. They are provided with door cargo nets and door tie back retainers. Many are also stackable and fitted with forklifts pockets for easier movability, and internal lashing points are provided for secure cargo stowage.
Confused About DNV 2.7-1 Certification?
Confused About DNV 2.7-1 Certification?
They are assessed at the design stage, and on their final stage they are tested to a Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI). This is a specialised technical method that provides information about the condition of materials and components, without destroying them! Did you know, these containers weigh nearly twice as much to their comparably sized ISO Container! This gives them the ability to maintain their upright position during transport through rough seas.

So there you have it, DNV 2.7-1 is a certification supplied by Det Norske Veritas, which ensures the design, material and production of offshore containers is approved for use on offshore sites such oils rigs and wind farms. Check out a constructed list categorising the main points for DNV 2.7-1 Certification >>

Here at Lion Containers (Offshore) Ltd, all of our DNV 2.7-1 containers are supplied with certified slings and shackles as a standard and also complies with BS/EN12079, giving them total flexibility in both offshore and onshore deployment. We are able to supply DNV container in a number of different sizes to best suit your requirements, view a selection of our DNV products >>

Life at Sea: Working on an Oil Rig Platform

1/27/2015

I’m sure, like most kids, working on an offshore Oil Rig wasn’t one of the most popular choices when the family friends asked the question “what do you want to be when you grow up”. Yet hundreds of people live for up to 26 weeks of the year on them!
The first underwater oil well was drilled from a platform in 1891 and since then they have grown into huge structures that dwell deep in the seas, miles from shore. There are several types of oil rigs such as fixed platforms (platforms built on concrete or steel structures that are secured onto the seabed), compliant towers (a slender flexible tower typically used in water depths ranging from 370m to 910m), semi-submersible platforms (transportable platforms of sufficient buoyancy to cause the structure to float) and others include jack-up drilling rigs, drillships, floating production systems, tension-leg platforms, gravity-based structures, spar platforms… heard enough yet!?

The larger platforms of the selection above can employ and house more than a hundred workers. As the platforms are expected to run 24/7 the workers have to endure long 12 hour days for up two weeks at a time. The full time job that is carried out by the teams is extremely dangerous as standard and to top it off; they have to handle the stormy, windy conditions that can present themselves at sea! I know I wouldn’t want to be the one responsible for the risk assessments..

This may sound pretty tough but they are very well looked after. The companies that run these facilities ensure that the workers are as comfortable as possible and include for gyms, TV’s, recreational facilities, hotel standard accommodation and quite a comfortable wage slip at the end of the month! Still, I don’t think I’d be very good at living at sea, the thought of it is already sending me a little green at the gills!

The Benefits of Offshore DNV Containers

1/27/2015

What does DNV mean? It means Det Norske Veritas, which is an autonomous and independent foundation with the objectives of safeguarding life, property and the environment at sea and on shore. DNV containers are offshore units that have been built and certified for transporting and lifting goods in open seas to floating installations such as oil rigs, where the weather isn’t as good as Hawaii. Due to the environment of these particular places, all offshore containers are designed to withstand lifting in rough seas and to avoid failure in such bad conditions.
The Benefits of Offshore DNV Containers
All offshore containers can also be built to a CSC Standard allowing them to be transported on containers vessels. DNV Containers are usually with supplied certified lifting slings and shackles, which is the most critical component to safety in transporting the container from the vessel to the offshore platform. They can be supplied with equipment such as forklift pockets for easy access and movability or framework with ISO Block/pad eyes for stacking with ISO Standard container twist locks. All DNV Containers must be certified to an offshore standard such as DNV 2.7-1 or BS/EN12079, giving them total flexibility in both offshore and onshore deployment.

The offshore industry is getting bigger day by day, which means that the need for DNV containers is getting more immense. There are many types of offshore containers, one of them being a 10ft or 20ft DNV/ISO Offshore Container, which is frequently used for storage, hiring purposes and delivering goods to offshore sites. Others include DNV Half Height Containers, Offshore Cargo Baskets, and DNV Offshore Mud Cutting Skips which are most commonly used for transporting pipes, tools, chains, hooks and anchors in the offshore industry or even offices and canteens, which are used for extra space for personnel.

Standard containers with modifications benefit all types of industries onshore, but offshore containers require more complex requirements which may need to be approved for offshore use. Here at Lion Containers Ltd we are able to offer containers that have been built to an offshore standard with fully approved modifications.
The Benefits of Offshore DNV Containers
Modified DNV Containers have many benefits, and whether they are being used for storage or office equipment, they can be very beneficial if used in the correct way. If the container is going to be used frequently we are able to provide lighting, switches, power connections and sockets, so you won’t be alone in the dark. These electric components can be IP rated, Atex or Blastproof standard for use in hazardous areas. Use up all that internal capacity with secure shelving! We all know it can get rocky on the sea, so stop your goods from having a joyride with a mesh cage door to keep it secure. Further information regarding a recent container we have converted with shelving and electrics can be read here >>

Everyone likes a bit of sunlight and easy access! We are able to supply and fit A60 rated windows and personnel doors with the correct fitting and certifications to your offshore containers. DNV Containers can also come with a number of accessories such as tools chests, work benches, gantry cranes, bunded floors and the best part is that we can build according to your bespoke specifications.

Lion Containers (Offshore) Ltd are able to supply a range of DNV equipment from dry good storage to mud skips and cargo baskets. We have extensive knowledge about fabricating and certifying these units and are now modifying our DNV containers and custom building them to expand our client range.
Standard DNV Equipment Available
Standard DNV Equipment Available
Our containers are certified as DNV 2.7-1 as standard and we are also able to offer certification to DNV 2.7-3. The difference between the two is simple; 2.7-1 is a DNV unit which is used for storage offshore, however a 2.7-3 unit is certified if you are going to stay in the container longer,  for example personnel using a workshop or office unit. The most popular unit that we provide is actually the 20ft new DNV 2.7-1 containers which come with certified slings and shackles.

In today’s advance world the demand for DNV has become very popular. Not only do we supply and fabricate standard DNV equipment we offer a range to pick from so it can be used up to its full potential. We can also offer Cargo baskets (an open top container used for general storage or special cargo), Tank Containers (used for transporting dangerous and non-dangerous fluids), Bulk Containers (transportation of solids in bulk) and many more. Whatever requirements, we are able to help!
